This is a very straightforward pattern converting a circle to a square using taller and shorter stitches across the width of the emerging square. The only variation in this pattern is that in the row that constructs the square it is worked through the back of the loops which accentuates the rim of the circle. In the book, the centre is coloured red, orange and yellow with the surrounding square in sky blue hence the name Aztec Sun. It comes from “100 Bright and Colourful Granny Squares to Mix and Match” by Leonie Morgan on page 114. I have already crocheted this square in the previous colour palette here.
Although I already have a colour palette, I still find it difficult to decide which colours to use and where to use them. I unconsciously favour the brighter colours so I keep second guessing myself. I am trying to balance the colours evenly across the project and about the only way I have found to do that is to see how much of each colour is left and try to use those that have the most yarn remaining. I drive myself nuts doing this 🙂
