February Embroidery with bugs

I love to try out new techniques. Reading a book about Mountmellic embroidery, I discovered that one way to add bulk and give dimension to embroidery is to make a foundation of chain stitch under the area then satin stitch over the chain stitch.

That caused one of those “duh” moments as I wondered how I had never heard of that before or thought of it myself. Whatever.

I have been seeing a great deal of stumpwork lately especially bugs and butterflies and so I decided to try to embroider some bugs for myself.

Now I don’t know whether you could call it stumpwork and you definitely couldn’t call it Mountmellick embroidery. Never the less, here are my two bug creations,  inspired by Mountmellick and stumpwork embroidery.
