Top-down baby cardigan

This is something I have wanted to do, ever since my mother gave me a Fair Isle cardigan that did not have a single seam or any way or working out how it was made. I found this pattern on a BBC page, it is archived but still available here. I measured it when finished and find it would fit a very small prem baby (pattern states 2lb). It fits underarm 25cm, garment measures 30cm, length 16cm, sleeve seam 8cm. I used Patons Big Baby 4 ply which is 60% acrylic, 40% nylon. Washing instructions are gentle machine warm wash, do not tumble dry, dry flat in shade, do not bleach, do not iron, 40° dry cleanable (no steam). I have been trying to modify my standard knitting patterns to this style but so far I have not succeeded because the raglan seams make my head spin. I have not given up yet.

It starts out like this, knitted from the neck down to the bottom of the raglan. Because this is a cardigan the body can be knitted on a pair of needles. The sleeve stitches are placed onto a length of contrasting wool and then the back and fronts can be joined to complete the body.

All that remains to be done is to transfer the sleeve stitches to a set of needles and knit on the round from the underarm to the cuff. The only sewing left to be done is to sew in the ends of yarn and when doing so at the underarm to join the small hole left when transferring stitches. It is a very satisfying pattern.
